The artwork starts to pull together. We spend a morning with the children decoupaging the cabinet with old books, the moth prints and an opportunity to draw where they can find a dry spot on the cabinet. Continue reading
A day of making for the installation. Year 5 and 6 closely observe images of moths and create print blocks using foam sheets on cardboard plates. These are inked up, chincolle added for colour and then passed through the etching press that is visiting the school for the day. The children produce beautifully cut and intricate designs for their moths which are then cut out and installed in old picture frames. Continue reading
You are invited to visit the Curious Cabinet. The cabinet has been delivered to your school for your inspection, deliberation, fascination and to make you curious too.
Go and examine the weird and wonderful objects within, consider the things that might live there, look for ways in, look for ways out, look for any magic you might be the only one to see. Use your wildest imagination.
Then, shut your eyes and invent what you would like to be there…

It seems a long time since the designs of Harry and Tommy from early years were chosen as the starting point for the new playground mosaic. The promised completion date was today when the school were being visited by Bishop Martin who would unveil the artwork. The design is a map of the village featuring notable trees and a network of paths which become a metaphor for the many paths the children may take in life. Continue reading
